Intense pulsed light (IPL)

in Miami at Collagen Project

Target pigment. Calm redness. Reveal brighter, clearer skin.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive light-based treatment designed to correct pigment, redness, sun damage, and uneven skin tone—without downtime. At collagen project, IPL is used strategically to improve skin clarity while supporting long-term collagen health.

What is intense pulsed light?

IPL uses broad-spectrum light to target unwanted pigment and vascular irregularities in the skin. Unlike lasers that use a single wavelength, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths of light, allowing us to treat brown spots, redness, broken capillaries, and overall tone in one customized session.

The light energy gently heats targeted areas, causing pigmented cells and visible vessels to break down naturally revealing clearer, more even skin over time.

what does IPL treat?

IPL is ideal for patients looking to address:

  • Sun damage and age spots

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Redness and rosacea-prone skin

  • Broken capillaries and vascular lesions

  • Uneven skin tone and dullness

  • Acne-related discoloration

It’s especially effective for the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders, and hands—areas most affected by sun exposure, as well as arms and legs.

How Does IPL Work?

During treatment, controlled pulses of light are delivered to the skin. The light selectively targets melanin (brown pigment) and hemoglobin (redness) without damaging surrounding tissue.

Over the following days:

  • Pigmented spots darken and flake away

  • Redness visibly softens

  • Skin tone becomes brighter and more even

Repeated sessions lead to cumulative improvement and healthier-looking skin.

IPL at collagen project

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all treatments.

Every IPL session at collagen project is:

  • Clinician-performed

  • Customized to your skin tone, concerns, and goals

  • Integrated into a long-term skin strategy

IPL is often combined with other modalities—such as coolpeel co2, microneedling, or morpheus8—to enhance results and maintain skin health over time.

What to Expect During Treatment

  • Treatment time: ~30 minutes

  • Sensation: A quick snap of warmth (well tolerated)

  • Downtime: Minimal to none

  • Makeup: Can usually be worn same day

You may notice darkening of pigment before it clears (the pigment will have a “coffee ground” like appearance) this is a normal and expected part of the process.

Results & Treatment Plan

Results are progressive:

  • Brighter skin within days

  • Reduction in pigment and redness over weeks

  • Continued improvement with consistency

IPL is also an excellent maintenance treatment for preserving clear, even skin year-round.

Is IPL Right for You?

IPL is best suited for lighter to medium skin tones and is ideal if your primary concerns include pigment, redness, or sun damage.

Why collagen project?

Because good skin isn’t accidental—it’s built.

At collagen project, every treatment is part of a strategic plan focused on:

  • Correcting existing damage

  • Stimulating collagen where possible

  • Protecting and maintaining results long-term

IPL is one powerful tool in that plan.

Pre-Treatment Care for IPL

To ensure safe and effective results, proper preparation is essential—especially in sunny climates like Miami.

Before your IPL treatment:

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning (including self-tanner) for 2–4 weeks

  • Discontinue retinoids, exfoliating acids, and harsh active skincare 4–5 days prior

  • Avoid waxing, threading, or depilatory creams in the treatment area 4–5 days prior

  • Arrive with clean skin—no makeup, lotion, or SPF

  • Inform your provider of any new medications or skin changes

Post-Treatment Care & Recovery

IPL requires minimal downtime, but proper aftercare is critical for best results.

After IPL treatment:

  • Expect mild redness or warmth for a few hours (similar to a sun burn)

  • Pigmented spots may darken before flaking off (appearance will be similar to coffee grounds, this is normal and expected)

  • Some vascular lesions will fade immediately after treatment, other vascular leisons may be darker and then fade similar to a bruise

  • Avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks (note: self tanner is acceptable after treatment)

  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF daily (non-negotiable)

  • Avoid heat, intense workouts, and exfoliation for 48–72 hours

  • Keep skin hydrated and calm—gentle skincare only for 48–72 hours

Following post-care instructions helps prevent rebound pigmentation and protects your results.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • IPL uses broad-spectrum light, allowing it to treat multiple concerns (pigment + redness) at once. Lasers use a single wavelength and are often more targeted. IPL is ideal for overall tone correction and photorejuvenation.

  • Most patients see best results with 3–5 sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart. Pigmentation and redness improve progressively with each treatment.

  • While IPL is primarily corrective for pigment and redness, it also creates mild dermal heating that can support collagen stimulation over time—especially when combined with collagen-inducing treatments.

  • Most patients describe the sensation as a quick snap of warmth. Discomfort is minimal and well tolerated.

    • Brightness: within days

    • Pigment reduction: 1–2 weeks

    • Redness improvement: progressive over weeks

    Consistency delivers the best outcome.

  • Yes. IPL is frequently combined with microneedling, coolpeel CO2 or morpheus8 as part of a comprehensive skin plan.

IPL Contraindications

IPL may not be appropriate if you have:

  • Very dark or recently tanned skin

  • Active skin infections or open lesions

  • Certain photosensitizing medications

  • History of light-triggered seizures

  • Recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use

  • Active melasma flares (case-dependent)

IPL for Pigmentation in Miami

Miami’s intense UV exposure accelerates pigmentation, sun damage, and vascular changes. IPL is one of the most effective treatments for sun-induced pigmentation, age spots, and uneven tone caused by chronic sun exposure.

When paired with strict sun protection and a personalized treatment plan, IPL helps restore clarity while protecting long-term skin health.

Why Choose Collagen Project for IPL in Miami?

At collagen project, IPL is:

  • Customized to your skin type

  • Integrated into a long-term collagen and skin health plan

Our goal isn’t just clearer skin—it’s resilient, healthy skin that ages better over time.
