hair growth
and exosomes for extra collagen building super power
hair restoration with microneedling
The SkinPen® microneedling device causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to remodeling of collagen and elastin and stimulates the growth of new cells, including hair cells. The renewed growth helps to fill in areas of receding or thinning hair. The SkinPen® can also stimulate a renewed blood supply and proper nutrients to deprived hair follicles, which can work to restore the hair by bringing more nutrients to the hair roots, making your hair healthier and stronger.
By microneedling on your scalp, you're encouraging your body to create a better environment for hair growth.
How do Exosomes help maintain and prevent hair loss?
1. Protection of hair follicles: They protect the existing hair follicles from damage and contribute to healthy cell communication required for new hair growth.
2. Promotion of hair follicle growth:
They contain anti-inflammatory molecules that can help to reduce inflammation in the scalp, which can contribute to hair loss. They promote hair growth, increase the formation of new hair and increase the thickness of old hair.
3. Regulation of the hair growth cycle: They regulate the hair growth cycle, which can help to promote the growth of new hair and prevent hair loss. They positively affect the cells affected by hair loss because they speed up cell division, supporting the faster growth of new hair follicles.
4. Stimulation of new blood vessels to nourish of hair follicles: They repair damaged hair follicles to support healthy new growth.
5. Nature’s natural biotechnology: They promote the regrowth of scalp cells and the growth of the hair follicles in the same way that hair transplant techniques do.

how does SkinPen microneedling for hair loss work?
SkinPen® needles cycle at 100+ stamps/second, potentially creating 1600+ microchannels per second when moving the SkinPen®. Together with topical exosomes, SkinPen Microneedling can:
Extend your hair growth phase, lengthening it for thicker, healthier growth
Encourage new hair regrowth from failing follicles
Trigger a healing process leading to new collagen formation and a healthier scalp creating an ideal environment for hair growth
Reenergize cells in the treated area, including cell structures in the follicle
Deliver exosomes and growth factors deeper into the skin than topical treatments can penetrate
Develop stronger hair strands
Minimize future hair loss by improving follicle health
about exosomes
what are exosomes + microneedleing
Exosomes are nanoparticles released by nearly all cells in the human body, and skin cells have their very own kind of exosomes. They contain various lipids, proteins, amino acids, peptides, growth factors, and genetic material.
Exsome therapy involves the application of topical exosomes (in the form of what looks and feels like a serum or gel) after treatments like resurfacing lasers or microneedling. I like to think of exosome therapy as the cherry on top of in-office treatments because it can only be done in conjunction with one — never on its own.
That's because, although exosomes are nanoparticles, they cannot penetrate skin on their own. They need those disruptions in the superficial layer of skin to start communicating with skin cells. Otherwise, they'd just sit on the surface of your skin doing nothing. This is also the reason why over-the-counter serums and creams aren't spiked with exosomes just yet.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that involves applying a microneedling stamp to very fine needles to the skin. The needles create tiny channels (microscopic injuries) in the skin that trigger the skin’s natural healing response. As a result, microneedling induces the formation of new collagen and elastin in the skin. That’s why it is also called collagen induction therapy. By promoting the formation of essential skin proteins collagen and elastin, microneedling can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks. The technique involves using different needles for different purposes. Stretch marks treatment requires the use of slightly longer microneedles that can penetrate midway through the dermis.
how do exosomes benefit the skin and hair?
The SkinPen® stimulates a renewed blood supply and proper nutrients to deprived hair follicles, which can work to restore the hair growth process after hair loss. This renewed growth helps to fill in areas of receding or thinning hair.
Exosomes are tiny messenger molecules produced by mesenchymal stem cells. They play an important role in stem cell communication and behavior. Exosomes contain growth factors and other materials that trigger regeneration in the targeted treatment areas.
When exosomes are applied to your scalp after microneedling, these helpful cells tell your hair follicles to regenerate and regrow hair. There’s no surgery required, and most people tolerate treatment well.
Clinical studies show that not only does exosomal hair restoration trigger new hair growth, but it also creates thicker hair. If you’re self-conscious about thinning hair, exosomal hair restoration may be the solution you’ve been seeking.

Using medical-grade microneedling devices with longer needles is needed to address hair follicle health. In most people, the hair follicle bulge containing specialized stem cells resides 1.00–1.80 mm below the skin's surface. A variety of different growth factors and proteins are released when microneedles create tiny holes in the skin’s dermis. The release of these proteins and growth factors can positively affect both hair and skin. A microchannel of sufficient depth is also needed to enhance the absorption of topical treatments including exosomes.
-
Microneedling can be performed using SkinPen®, a medical-grade, state-of-the-art microneedling tool available only through medical professionals. The treatment typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour including numbing and hair prep time, depending on the size and number of areas treated and the degree of treatment requested by the patient.
-
The length of the treatment can depend on the individual’s needs. Typically, you will only need 15 to 30 minutes to complete the process once you have sufficiently numbed and the scalp is prepared.
-
The total healing time depends on each individual. Most patients have some slight swelling and redness/pinkness (like a mild to moderate sunburn) for two days following the microneedling procedure. Social downtime is limited. We encourage patients to wait 1 day to wash hair. Sun should be avoided after treatment.
-
Most patients report minimal pain and the slight vibration of the SkinPen® during the treatment. The needles used are very sharp and fine, allowing the benefit of puncturing your skin without the feeling of any tugging or pulling. To manage any discomfort, we can use a topical cream applied to the treatment area for 10-15 minutes.
-
Because microneedling treatments stimulate your body into producing collagen, and elastin, as well as new skin and hair cells and tissue growth, you need to give your body time to produce all of these great regenerative elements. The natural repair process continues to progress through the course of several weeks. Because hair follicles are all in different stages of development (for example, on any given day some of your hairs are growing, others are stagnated and some are shedding) they are addressed at different times throughout the treatment cycles. Like other hair loss treatments, microneedling takes time to work. Most studies last a few months and report positive changes in hair regrowth and hair density after 3-6 months.
-
You should not get SkinPen microneedling if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have low platelets or a bleeding disorder, if you have an active sunburn, infection or open lesions in the treatment area. Patients on “anti-clotting” medications (like Aspirin and other blood thinners) or who have certain autoimmune disorders should discuss treatment with their prescribing physicians.
everything you need to know
one week before treatment
Stop taking NSAID medicines such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Naproxen since they interfere with normal blood clotting. Check medication labels for the active ingredient.
You may take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) as needed for pain not to exceed 2500 mg a day.
No prolonged sun exposure to the area being treated. Sunburned skin cannot be treated.
day of treatment
Shower as usual.
Do not apply any hair products or oils to treatment areas.
After treatment
· Avoid hair washing for at least 4 hours (up to 1 day if possible). Use gentle shampoo and hair products.
· Avoid direct sun exposure after treatment- wear a hat or head scarf to help protect your scalp during this healing time.
· Sleep on a clean pillowcase.
· Avoid sweating the scalp for 48 hours after treatment to prevent bacteria and dirt from entering the microchannels.
what to expect during your treatment
Your appointment will last about 60 minutes.
When you arrive, you will review and sign your consent forms.
You will be taken to an exam room and have photographs taken.
We will clean your skin and apply a topical anesthetic to the treated area.
You will need to let the numbing cream sit for 10-15 minutes.
Once you are numb, your treatment will begin.
what to expect after your treatment
Immediately after your treatment, your skin will be red and may feel warm and tighter than usual
You may notice your scalp peeling off a few days post-treatment, similar to when your skin peels after a mild sunburn. This is an expected response as the surface layer of your scalp is renewing itself.
You might experience some discomfort or tenderness on your scalp.
treatment cycle + maintenance
You can complete a session of SkinPen Microneedling and exosomes to the scalp every 3-4 weeks until you see desired results and move to less frequent sessions to maintain hair growth over time as needed. A total number of sessions needed is individual to patients needs, however, it’s likely that you’ll need at least a few months of treatments.
